Choosing the Right Application

Canva

Last updated on 23 Jan, 2026

Canva is an online visual communication and graphic design platform that uses a simple drag-and-drop interface, making it easy for users without professional design training to create a wide variety of visual content. It operates on a freemium model and is available via web browser and desktop/mobile apps. Canva isn’t currently recommended for high quality book production outside of it’s own Print Services.

Key Features

  • Design Tools: Users can leverage thousands of templates and millions of free images, icons, and graphics to create social media posts, presentations, websites, videos, documents, and more.

  • AI Integration: Features like “Magic Write” (AI copywriting assistant) and “Magic Edit” (AI photo editing) are integrated into the platform to help users generate content and edit images with text prompts.

  • Collaboration: The platform supports real-time collaboration, allowing teams to work on designs together, leave comments, and assign tasks.

  • Print Services: Canva offers print services for various products, including business cards, T-shirts, and posters.

  • Brand Management: Pro and Enterprise plans offer Brand Kits, allowing users to store and apply their brand’s logos, colors, and fonts to ensure consistency across all designs.

  • Acquisitions: Canva has expanded its ecosystem through acquisitions of companies like Pexels and Pixabay (stock photos), and the Affinity suite of professional design software (Photo, Designer, Publisher).
